Keeping it off

Eating out and takeaways after a GLP-1

By the Steadie team · Updated · 2 minute read

The short version

  • Meals out and takeaways belong in your plan. One meal never undoes a steady week.
  • Look at the menu beforehand and choose a protein-first main.
  • Takeaway portions vary hugely, so sharing or saving half is easy.
  • A quick homemade fakeaway is often cheaper, faster and higher in protein.

Before you go

Looking at the menu in advance takes the pressure off choosing at the table. Pick a main built around protein, add a side of veg or salad, and decide on extras when you get there.

At the table

  • Start with the protein on your plate.
  • Eat slowly enough to notice when you've had enough.
  • If you drink alcohol, alternate with water and eat first.
  • Enjoy it. The next meal is just the next meal.

Takeaways

Takeaway portions can vary enormously: Nesta's testing found the same "regular" pizza ranged from 600 to 2,300 calories between shops. Sharing a main, adding a side salad or saving half for tomorrow are easy wins.

A homemade fakeaway (chicken tikka with microwave rice, a quick egg-fried rice with prawns, a lean beef burger) is often faster than delivery and higher in protein. Steadie's meal plan includes takeaway nights and fakeaways for exactly this.

Common questions

Can I still have takeaways after stopping Mounjaro?

Yes. Plan them into your week, choose a protein-first main, and share or save half if portions are big.
